At the opening ceremony of IJCAI-17on August 22 in Melbourne, the Donald E. Walker Distinguished Service Award will be given to Ramon Lopez de Mantaras, Research Professor of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and Director of the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute of the CSIC. Professor Lopez de Mantaras is recognized for his substantial contributions, as well as his extensive service to the field of Artificial Intelligence throughout his career.
For her thesis: "On modal expansions of t-norm based logics with rational constants", supervised by Félix Bou, Frances Esteva and Lluis Godo. The award ceremony will take place during the gala dinner, on September the 13th, 2017, of the forthcoming EUSFLAT 2017 Conference which will be held in Warsaw.
The paper "An Argument-based Creative Assistant for Harmonic Blending " by Maximos Kaliakatsos-Papakostas, Roberto Confalonieri (IIIA postdoc), Joseph Corneli, Asterios Zacharakis and Emilios Cambouropoulos, has been distinguished as the best paper of the 7th International Conference on Computational Creativity, held in Paris from June 27 to July 1 2016.

The PhD Thesis "Facing the challenge of automated negotiation with humans" by Angela Fabregues has received the "Outstanding PhD Award" from the Computer Science Department of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) for theses defended in 2012 and 2013.
The purpose of the competition is to steer the research in the area bilateral multi-issue closed negotiation. Closed negotiation, when opponents do not reveal their preferences to each other, is an important class of real-life negotiations.

Josep Lluis Arcos and Joan Serra together with two collaborators from the Max Plank Institute in Germany participated to the annual MIREX international evaluation framework for Music Information Retrieval algorithms, where participants submit their algorithms as binary executables and they run such algorithms on different public and pivate datasets.

Francesc Esteva has been selected Honorary Member of the European Society for Fuzzy Logic and Technology (EUSFLAT) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to fuzzy and many-valued logics and for his tireless activities to advance the EUSFLAT society as a
co-founder of the society, its first president (1997-2001), and a
faithful long-time member. He is the first member to receive this distinction.
The University of Salamanca has awarded the "2007-2008 Outstanding PhD
thesis Prize" to Enrico Marchioni for his PhD entitled: "Functional
definability issues in logics based on triangular norms", done under the supervision of Prof. Lluis Godo (IIIA) and Prof. Mara manzano (Univ. of Salamanca).
Angela Fabregues, a PhD student at the IIIA, has been awarded one of the 12 european Anita Borg Scholarships. Google awards these scholarships to encourage female students to excel in their studies and become active role models and leaders.
